Numerical Reasoning

Two timed parts. The first is short calculations. The second reads graphs and tables.

Part 1 · Short calculations

12 questions, 4 minutes.

  1. Add decimals. Line the decimal points up before you add.
  2. Add or subtract fractions by writing them over the same denominator first.
  3. Turn a fraction into a decimal by dividing the top by the bottom. is 0.6.
  4. Later questions ask for the value of x, or ask you to multiply or divide fractions.

Part 2 · Graphs and tables

15 questions, 11 minutes, across four scenarios.

  1. A scenario is a line graph, a bar chart, or a table, and it stays up for a few questions. The last two scenarios are tables.
  2. On a line graph, follow one line to the month you need. The legend shows the colour and the dash.
  3. On a bar chart, read the scale. It may not start at zero.
  4. In a table, the distances are filled in and some prices are blank. Journey time is the distance divided by the speed. A departure time is the arrival minus that journey. One price can be half or twice another.

A to E chooses an answer. Enter moves on. You can move back. A blank scores as incorrect.
